Marie Payne has more that thirty years experience in weaving and design. She has studied internationally with several recognized leaders in her field and always enjoys sharing her new found knowledge with others.
A partner in Marie/Josette, she collaborates with Josette Luyckx, a designer and textile artist who creates wearable art jackets from Marie’s hand-dyed, handwoven fabrics. As well as creating yardage, Marie produces hand-dyed and handwoven scarves and stoles. One of her current interests is woven shibori fabric.
Marie has been exploring and experimenting with discharge dyeing, using various types of fiber reactive dyes, vat dyes and disperse dyes, to develop interesting colour combinations and layering effects that will reflect her interpretational sources, often nature based.
She feels that these interpretations require consideration beyond colour. Textures and shapes add depth to her work. She is experimenting with some specialized materials which allow for permanent pleating in fabrics.
Marie is on the board of directors of Just for Us Originals, an annual wearable art show held in Mississauga, Ontario. She is a cofounder of the Mississauga Artisan Studio Tour.
